Peekaboo Forest was designed with preschool age children in mind by the award-winning team of educational media developers at Night & Day Studios. It’s educational, ad-free, and affordable. When you could really use a safe distraction-in airports, restaurants, and waiting rooms-or you’d like to try something new with your budding little genius, Peekaboo Forest is a great alternative to other media options.

This is not a videogame or a TV show it’s an interactive storybook with exceptionally fine art. Adults will love the graphic, mid-century-modern illustrations by Charley Harper, with interludes from the changing seasons. Older children can try to guess the animals by clues, work on spelling, and can start to learn about the seasons and the interconnected web of life that is a living forest.

Younger children will love playing peekaboo with animals, as they learn about cause and effect and familiarize themselves with the names and sounds of animals. Touch the vividly illustrated forest scenes to see charming animations, learn the names of animals, and hear the real sounds these creatures make in the wild.

With this Mac App version, the beloved Peekaboo series of iPhone and iPad apps-featured by everyone from The New York Times to Fox News-comes to your computer too. If you see something moving, tap on it to find out who it is! This fun, interactive, and educational game includes Charley Harper’s distinctive drawing style and was inspired by his love of nature and symmetry. I recommend it highly for the smallest of iPad users.Explore beautiful forest scenes looking for signs of life. This game is focused like a laser beam and does one thing very well, with enough variety in the graphics and sound to keep kids coming back. With Peekaboo! Guess Who?, they have apparently changed direction, to the player's benefit. The loser in that approach was the child. In the past, Bacciz released confusing apps which threw in everything including the kitchen sink to show potential clients what they could do.

I will bet that after looking at the free version, parents will be more than happy to plunk down the two dollars to get the full app. I would suggest that this be downloaded first since it gives one a feeling for the game. There is also a free lite version with one location and six animals.

The full version features over forty animals to be found across four locations. In fact, they look like early animated Disney characters. Most elements are brightly-colored and all the animals look happy with huge, friendly-looking blue eyes. Finally, you can switch between Kid Mode and 2+ Mode at anytime with a tap. Also, if a player hesitates for a certain amount of time, a hand appears and points out the hidden animal's location. For example, kids are prompted through gameplay by a dopey, Wallace Shawn-sounding voice. If the wrong animal is chosen, the face frowns and another choice can be made. If correct, the circle changes to a smiley face and the child is rewarded with a big "Yay!" or "Yippee!" The animal's name is displayed as it emerges from behind a curtain, barn door pile of leaves or forest of seaweed, depending on the level being played.
